Media advisoryFor immediate releaseJune 7, 2006 Addressing the issues of one in 5 Nova Scotians:Political forum a chance for disability community to ask questions A network of disability related groups, led by Teamwork Cooperative, the Kendrick Report Coalition and Nova Scotia League for Equal Opportunities has joined forces for a united election strategy - together these groups include the hundreds of organizations working to improve the lives of persons with disabilities. As part of this effort they are holding a candidates forum:Thursday June 8 from one till 2 p.m.

                                                                        at the CNIB Auditorium
                                                                        6136 Almon Street, Halifax

Halifax Fairview NDP candidate Graham Steele and Halifax Atlantic Liberal candidate Jim Hoskins have confirmed their attendance. The PC party and the Green party are still working on finding someone to address the issues of this community. The forum will mainly be a question and answer session with only one or two scripted questions.
While the political parties have given some attention to a few of the many issues affecting persons with disabilities in their platforms with 20% of the province's population living with some form of disability some attention is not enough. Persons with a disability deserve a well formulated plan. The form is a chance to ask candidates just what their plan is.
We hope to see you at 1 p.m. on June 8. For further information, please contact Jennifer, coordinator at the Nova Scotia League for Equal Opportunities, at phone number 489-8434.
