Media and Messaging Strategies Seminar
With Janice Landry
January 29, 2007
Public Archives Building
6016 University Avenue, (corner of University Avenue and Robie Street)
9:30 am – 4:00 pm

Community Action on Homelessness is excited to extend an invitation to your
organization to attend this full day Media and Messaging capacity building
seminar with facilitator Janice Landry, veteran journalist, freelance
production company owner (Groundhog Productions) and part-time faculty
member for MSVU Public Relations Department where she has been teaching for
the past 5 years.

It is well known that the media is integral to getting our information out
to the broader public in order to increase the profile of the issues that
are important to non-profit groups and organizations. For this reason, the
ability to effectively craft and deliver messages to the media is important.
How many times has your organization held an event, put out a press release
and have no media attend or given a statement in an interview for TV or
print only to see that your point has been lost, or misrepresented?

The aim of this seminar is to help non-profit organizations and coalitions
better understand the media and its role. Attendees will learn how to decide
what and what not to say in public, how to talk during ‘live’ and taped
interviews, how to generate interest in a news story, how to hold successful
press conferences, etc. The outcome of this seminar is for each person to
come away with an understanding of how to deal with the media in a
professional and organized manner.

Space is limited for this event. For this reason we ask that your
organization choose one member to represent your group to attend. We also
ask that you not pass this invitation on to others. Your cooperation in this
is appreciated

Please send registration forms to Darcy Harvey via email
(dharvey at cahhalifax.org), fax (420-6038), or mail (2030 Gottingen St, Suite
201, Halifax, NS B3K 6R4)

:::::::::::: ANNOUNCEMENT: HOMELESSNESS MEMORIAL

February 20th / 20 février 2007

BRANCHEZ-VOUS SUR LE MARATHON DES SANS-ABRI
TUNE-IN ALL NIGHT LONG FOR THE HOMELESSNESS MARATHON
on CKUT 90.3 fm or http://www.CKUT.ca/homeless.html APPELEZ-NOUS SANS FRAIS
AU 1.866.763.4136 CALL TOLL-FREE

Why do a nationwide homelessness marathon?
Because homeless people should have access to the media where they can
freely speak out. Because only the homeless know the reality of living on
the streets. Because it is the homeless who are best able to educate people
on the issue of homelessness.

20th and continue through sunrise the next day in front of the Native
Friendship Center of Montréal - 2001 rue Saint-Laurent. Hot food and drink
