JOB OPPORTUNITY: PROJECT COORDINATOR

Atlantic Seniors Housing Research Alliance is an organization that involves
partners, stakeholders and

community organizations from across Atlantic Canada in collaborative
research on the evolving housing

needs of seniors. Phase 2 of our 5-year research project will wrap up in the
summer of 2007 and included

surveying and interviewing over 1800 Atlantic Canadian seniors about their
housing needs, experiences,

and desires. Phase 3 begins in the fall of 2007, and will include policy
analysis, the development of a

seniors housing options inventory, and the exploration of international case
studies of innovative

approaches to seniors housing.

ASHRA is looking for a Project Coordinator skilled in research management
and experienced in working

with community partners and in knowledge dissemination to manage Phase 3 and
4 of the project. The

Project Coordinator will provide staff support to the Principal
Investigator, a regional Project Management

Team, four provincial Research Implementation Teams, and a number of Working
Groups convened to

guide specific research activities. The Coordinator will also provide
support to the Co-chairs of the four

Seniors’ Housing Stakeholder Groups based in each province and co-supervise
graduate and

undergraduate students working on the project. While the major
responsibilities are in the management of

the project, the coordinator will also have research responsibilities
including research, planning, analysis

and writing.

RESPONSIBILITES:

1. providing project management and general administrative support to the
Principal Investigator, the

regional Project Management Team, four Research Implementation Teams, and
the Co-chairs of

the four Seniors’ Housing Stakeholder Groups

2. ensuring timely and effective communication within the research alliance

3. assisting with the gathering and analysis of data generated by the
project methodologies, including

the housing and support service needs survey, focus groups, and policy
research

4. coordinating working groups for each of the research / dissemination
activities in Phases 3 and 4

5. assisting with the preparation of the narrative reports provided to the
Social Sciences and

Humanities Research Council

6. assisting with the preparation and dissemination of reports and documents
generated by the

research alliance for internal use including public education materials

7. coordinating the planning of the Atlantic Canadian Seniors Housing
Conference scheduled for May

2009

8. maintaining information on the project website

9. maintaining the project’s paper filing system at Mount Saint Vincent
University

QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate will have a Masters degree in a related
area such as Public

Administration, Family Studies and Gerontology, Adult Education, Planning,
Social Work, Psychology, or

other Humanities and a minimum of three years work experience. Direct
experience with quantitative and

qualitative research methods and a demonstrated ability to support a
geographically dispersed

collaborative initiative are prerequisites for this position. Experience
with, or a general interest in and

understanding of seniors and/or housing issues is preferred. Excellent
written and verbal communication

skills are required, as well as proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office,
PowerPoint, Front Page, Microsoft

Project and SPSS. Fluency in French is an asset. Occasional travel within
the Atlantic Region will be

required.

Classification: Contract (End date December 2009)

Salary: $46,000 per annum

Position - ReStore Manager


 

 

Habitat ReStore

Habitat for Humanity’s (HFH) ReStore
(http://www.habitathrm.com/restore.html) is a building supply store that
accepts and resells quality new and used building materials. The ReStore
generates funds to support Habitat's building programs, while reducing the
amount of used materials that are headed for landfills.

 

Job Purpose

To manage the acquisition, marketing and sale of used and surplus building
materials in order to ensure the generation of surplus funds to HFH in
support of their building initiatives.  The manager is responsible for the
operation, financial reporting, inventory management, and volunteer
co-ordination of the ReStore.   

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The ReStore Manager will perform a wide range of duties, including:

*	Determining the market demand for specific used and surplus building
materials and managing the procurement strategy for the acquisition of such
materials 
*	Organizing all donation pick up, drop off, cleaning, inspection and
disposal
*	Working with volunteer demolition crews to acquire materials
*	Orienting, training, and supervising all paid and volunteer staff
*	Managing all advertising, publicity, partnering initiatives, pricing
and business development in general
*	Ensuring compliance with all financial reporting practices and
managing payroll
*	Preparing annual operating plan including sales forecasts and
operating budget
*	Working with the Habitat Board of Directors, and any sub-committees
as needed
*	Other duties as required

 

Qualifications

Required:        Valid drivers license, clean criminal background check

Strong organizational, managerial and people skills

Current certification in WHMIS and first aid considered an asset

 

Experience:    Retail and/or inventory management experience

Employment experience in construction, building supplies, home renovation,
etc an asset

 

The ReStore Manager should demonstrate competencies in the following areas:
