CHRA's Next National Teleforum
Understanding and Preparing for "Housing First"
When: April 5, 2007
12:00 - 2:00 PM
Housing First is a policy based on the principle that homeless people are
not denied access to housing due to behaviour problems arising from
substance dependency, mental health, or other conditions. Its documented
success as a critical part of a wider harm reduction strategy for
chronically homeless people is driving Canadian interest, but its use has
been slowly and unevenly increasing. Significantly, in its recent
Homelessness Partnering Strategy announcement the federal government
established the wider dissemination of Housing First as a policy objective.

information about this teleforum, and to register, please click here!
What is a Teleforum?
A teleforum is like any information workshop insofar as there are speakers,
presentations and opportunities to ask questions and share information, in
this case about Housing First policies. The difference is that you can
participate in a teleforum from anywhere with a telephone and internet
connection. All audio is transmitted through the telephone, and visuals,
like Powerpoint slides, are viewed on a website. Try one- it is easy,
inexpensive and informative. Better still, gather a group around a
speakerphone and projection of the website. The cost for a group is the same
as the cost for an individual!

All are welcome to join us for the "Action Auction' on March 31st, 2007 at
First Baptist Church, Dartmouth, from 6:30 - 9:30 pm. Youth from our church
are participating in ministry/service projects in Kenya and Argentina this
year, and this auction will be raising funds to help them get into action.
Besides raising funds for the youth, the community will be able to find out
how they can also get into action as we promote awareness of and involvement
in the Make Poverty History Campaign through displays, videos and
information on fair trade and more.
